Local context
Why Zonnebloem needs this done properly
Ice machines in Zonnebloem fail for two reasons — scale and heat — and Student residences, campus buildings produces plenty of both. Near CPUT District Six campus, most machines are boxed into bar joinery with poor airflow, so we correct ventilation and water treatment at the same time as the descale. We keep Zonnebloem bar and kitchen ice plant on the same six-monthly service route as Woodstock, and stock the common spares on the van.
Zonnebloem is institutional and commercial in character — campus buildings, residences, light commercial units and new mixed-use development on District Six land. That means the equipment is bigger and the consequences of failure are shared: a residence kitchen cold room, a computer lab needing dependable cooling, a canteen with a wall of undercounter fridges. We work here on planned maintenance contracts and after-hours access, because you can't shut a residence kitchen at lunchtime.
Ice machines fail for two reasons in Cape Town: scale and heat. Cramped bar positions starve the condenser of air, and untreated water furs up the evaporator plate. We install with proper water treatment and ventilation, and we descale and rebuild machines that have been neglected.
